So, what exactly is Enriched Air / Nitrox?

The term “Nitrox” refers to any gas mixture composed (excluding trace gases) of nitrogen and oxygen; this actually includes normal air which is approximately 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, plus about 1% inert gases, primarily argon. The most common use of nitrox mixtures containing higher than normal levels of oxygen is in scuba diving, where the reduced percentage of nitrogen is advantageous in reducing nitrogen take up in the body’s tissues and so extending the possible dive time, and/or reducing surface interval time and maybe even reducing the risk of decompression sickness. Many divers report feeling less tired when using Nitrox, though there has been no real study to prove this.

Enriched Air requires the use of special tanks due to the higher than normal oxygen content, and also the use of special dive tables that you learn about in the course. You must be very careful to check your oxygen content before diving and use the right tables. Most dive computers will have the ability to account for Nitrox use, you just need to program the correct oxygen percentage (commonly between 32 – 36% for recreational dives). Should you not want to choose e-learning:

Should you not want to do e-learning we suggest that you stay close to Sunrise Divers (we are at Karon Beach) when taking your Advanced course. Ideally you should plan to visit our shop any day before your diving starts to complete paperwork, get your course manual and you can try equipment. On both diving days, pick up is from your hotel, pick up time 7:30am based on hotels in Karon or Kata Beach area. Pick up also possible from Patong. Other areas of Phuket may have an extra pick up fee.

SSI Training Center – Phuket Open Water Diver Courses

Move up a gear and experience fun and adventure with the SSI Advanced Adventurer Diver course. You make six dives and have the opportunity to try some of diving’s varied specialty activities, such as deep diving, underwater photography, wreck diving and much more. These skills make diving so much more than underwater sightseeing. When you take this course you start to see how much diving has to offer and you build your confidence and experience.

With your Instructor you will complete deep and navigation Adventure Dives. These dives boost your confidence as you build these basic advanced skills. Then, you can choose three additional dives from more than 15 Adventure Dives to complete your course. You can go diving at night (note: only on liveaboards), check out the local wreck, learn more about marine life, learn about drift dives, boat diving and more – all during your Advanced Open Water Diver course.

Knowledge Development with PADI Classroom Theory Possible

On day 1 please meet for PADI classes including classroom theory at our dive center 9am. We suggest that you stay close to Sunrise Divers (we are at Karon Beach) when making your course. On day 2 and 3, pick up is from your hotel, pick up time 7:30am based on hotels in Karon or Kata Beach area. Pick up also possible from Patong. If you stay in other areas of Phuket there may be an extra pick up fee.

PADI 3 day diving courses with theory in classroom and course manual plus 2,000 Baht.

We can also run the PADI course slowly including classroom theory in 4 days. Please ask for a price.

The theory covered in the course develops basic principles and diving procedures. You learn how pressure affects your body, how to choose the best gear and how to plan dives. We try to make the PADI theory fun! You have your PADI manual to read, plus we watch some DVD’s in our aircon classroom and then you take some simple quizzes and a final exam. Hey, we don’t want to make it too easy!

PADI eLearning is about 150 US$ EXTRA!

You can get started on your Open Water Diver course any time with PADI as well – this can save you holiday time – if you have completed all the theory in advance, you’ll be ready to get straight into the water, no messing around in classrooms on holiday, plus with eLearning you can do the theory in your own time. The charge for the PADI eLearning is about 150 US$ extra – this is paid to PADI, not to Sunrise Divers. Here in Phuket we’ll complete the course in 3 days, with no classroom work except a quick review quiz.
